More than sixty prints from the Reading Public Museum’s collection help tell the story of the production of prints in seventeenth century Holland, viewed by art historians as one of the most innovative periods in the history of printmaking. Etchings, which have the spontaneity of drawing, allowed many artists of this period to experiment with new techniques and materials. General themes such as genre subjects (scenes from everyday life), landscapes, allegories, religious works, and figure studies will be included in the exhibition. More than a dozen works by or after Rembrandt will join additional prints by Hendrick Goltzius,  Cornelis Bega, Jan Lievens, Adriaen van Ostade, Nicolaes Berchem, Carel Dujardin, Herman van Swanevelt, Jan van de Velde, Allaert van Everdingen, Adriaen van de Velde, and Anthonie Waterloo, among others.
