Reading Pops Celebrates 50th Anniversary Father’s Day Concert at the Reading Public Museum
To continue its 50th Anniversary season, the Reading Pops Orchestra once again present their annual Father’s Day concert featuring “The Music of America” on Sunday, June 16, 2019 at 3 p.m. under the Stone Terrace Tent at the Reading Public Museum.
The Pops are a professional 55-piece orchestra made up of musicians from Berks County and surrounding counties who perform popular classics and classic pop. Conductor Wes Fisher established the group in 1969.
It was Fisher’s vision to create a first-class orchestra that would be committed to promoting the musical arts in Berks County through the maintenance of a professional orchestra for public concert performances. The Pops’ annual summer schedule features free community concerts at various outdoor venues and their popular Sunday with the Pops Series.
The Pops will open the concert with “Kaleidoscope – An Overture for Three Cities” a commissioned work by composer Sam Dennison for their 1981 season. The concert will also feature a premiere of “The Pennsylvania March for Orchestra” composed by Ron DeGrandis.
A limited number of chairs for audience seating will be available under the Stone Terrace Tent. Concert patrons are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs for this free concert.
