In today’s college setting and business world, having an internship under your belt is a necessity as to gaining experience in a workplace setting. Having an internship that goes above and beyond what is expected is a beautiful thing! At the Reading Public Museum, not only was it a great internship in terms of learning and experiencing what happens in the field of events and event planning, but it was a great opportunity to create relationships with the group of heartfelt individuals that work at The Museum.

While interning at The Museum, I gained invaluable knowledge and skills that would otherwise not be taught inside a classroom. On weekends I experienced the various events happening on The Museum’s campus such as weddings, receptions, birthday parties, and corporate events.  Everything from how to interact with clients and successfully facilitate a wedding ceremony to how to create a detailed timeline for an event and more importantly, how to follow it and keep everything on track.

Doing this internship showed just how much work goes on behind the scenes before, during, and after an event. The staff at The Museum do such a superb job of preparing and hosting these events that there were minimal issues throughout my time spent there. The preparation and preparedness of everyone involved is crucial to make sure that issues that may arise during events will be kept to a minimum.

After completing my internship at the Reading Public Museum, I feel as though I am more prepared to go out into any career and be able to prepare accordingly and be ready for the unexpected. I will be forever grateful to Laura and the staff at The Museum for helping me not only fulfill a desire to work in a setting such as a Museum, but also for the invaluable knowledge that was taught to me along the way.
