MDA Ride for Life
On May 6 & 7, Museum staff joined motorcyclists from around the country at the Reading Fairgrounds for Harley Davidson’s Ride for Life, a fundraiser for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Warmer Weather Means Wedding Season!
Spring is in full bloom and with the warmer weather comes wedding season! To kick off wedding season at The Museum we hosted our 5th Annual Masterpiece Weddings Bridal Fair on April 23, sponsored by First National Bank.
RPM Spotlight
Berks Arts Council has announced that grant applications are open for the 2017-2018 Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts Project Stream grant program. PPA is a partnership between local organizations and the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts.

Berks Christian School Visit
Some Berks County children took a special field trip on Friday. Berks Christian School students explored the Reading Public Museum. They checked out exhibits on art and history and learned about nature.

History of The Reading Public Museum
In 1904, Dr. Levi Mengel, a science teacher at the Reading School District, sought permission from the district to purchase scientific and anthropological materials to aid in his vision of providing a “sensory education” to motivate his students to participate and to enrich their learning experience.
Down With the Ship
Dr. Levi Mengel was an entomologist, as well a science teacher for the Reading School District and founder of RPM – you may be familiar with him; he resides in the Mengel Gallery on the Ground Floor of The Museum. Dr. Mengel was set to receive a very special shipment in April 1912; that was being delivered via boat—that boat was the Titanic.
American Impressionism Transforms Art Museum
When you first walk into the Impressionism exhibit opening Friday night at the Springfield Art Museum, you’ll forget for a moment exactly where you are. You’ll swear you’ve been transported to a European art salon, where beautiful paintings in gilded frames hang close together, above and below one another, on the walls.
