Works on Paper Gallery/Hallway
See the life of the Jewish culture through the eyes of collector, Sigmund R. Balka. Works assembled by Balka depict Jewish cultural heritage over the last two centuries including urban and religious life, progress during the Depression, the Holocaust, and more.
Balka gifted his remarkable collection to the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion. The Reading Public Museum will present works by renowned artists such as: Rembrandt van Rijn, Will Barnet, Max Beckmann, David Burliuk, Lyonel Feininger, Werner Drewes, William Gropper, Jules Pascin, and Louis Lozowick, among others.
The exhibition is organized in collaboration with the Freedman Art Gallery at Albright College, the Freyberger Gallery at Penn State Berks, and the Jewish Cultural Center of Reading.
