Things To Do at the Reading Public Museum

Who are RPM Kids and why are they here?

The RPM is the logo for the family programming here at the Reading Public Museum. Every time you see a picture of them, you will know that the program is for the family and/or family friendly!

What are Family Fun Sheets?

Family fun sheets are to be used when families or children and adults come into the Museum and want to make the Museum visit more informative and fun for both the child and the adult. These sheets are free and are available for both the permanent collections and some temporary exhibits. There will be new and different sheets available on a regular basis. If you don't see them, please ask!

What is the Family Fun Brochure?

This is information that provides families with information about the Reading Public Museum. It contains tips on how to look at objects in the Museum, on things to do as a family while you're here, a brief guide to facilities in the Museum, and a listing of opportunities for families at the Museum.

What are the Backpacks?

The backpacks are free for children and adults to use while visiting the Museum. They contain activities that will help explain what is in the Galleries, how to understand objects in the Galleries, and things to do while visiting the Galleries. Although the directions in the backpack are self-explanatory, there will be a greeter who will explain the contents of the pack. You do not have to be familiar with the Gallery in order to enjoy the backpack with your children. That is one of the objectives - that adults as well as children will come away with more knowledge of the Museum! It will take you approximately thirty minutes to complete the contents of a backpack.

The backpacks are on the Backpack Rack, and there is a greeter who will check the pack in and out and will explain how to use the backpacks.

Who are Saturday Morning Buddies?

These are workshops for a child and his/her adult buddy. They are Saturday mornings from 10:00 am to 11:30 am. and each workshop presents a different art or craft activity. All supplies are included in the workshop fee and each workshop you will come away with a completed project! This is a way to spend some family time.

What are family gallery guides and where can I find them?

The family gallery guides will be located in each of the permanent galleries and provide you with pertinent information about some of the objects in that gallery. Guides are being developed on an ongoing basis, so if you don't see them in a particular gallery those guides will be coming.

Are there tours for families with children?

Yes, there are some tours located on our website and you may download the information before you come or there are limited copies available at the admission desk. These tours are self-guided so you may spend as much or as little time as you wish.
