The
Best Museum Visit Ever!
The
Department of Lifelong Learning at the Reading Public
Museum invites public and parochial teachers and
students to come to the Museum and enjoy your visit
to the fullest. In order to best accomplish this,
here are some FAQ’s that will make your visit
easy, informative, and fun.
What
do I do to arrange a visit?
Use
the online form, or mail or fax the PDF form to
reserve your date (fax number is 610-371-5632).
Arrangements should be made no less than four
(4) weeks in advance. It is important that you
have alternate dates available. Pre-arrangements
are required for all school programs, including
self-guided visits and home schoolers.
1.
Please use the convenient Online Visit Request Form
or download the PDF version of the Visit Request
Form - both can be found at the top of this page.
2.
When the Museum receives your form, you will receive
a phone call from Lori Irwin.
Please
note: requests will be honored in the order they
are received.
When
can my class visit the Museum?
If a gallery teacher is needed, classes may reserve
a visit between 9:00 am – 3:30 PM., Tuesday
- Friday. Self-guided visits may occur during
these times, as well as Wednesday evenings, Saturdays,
and Sundays.
How
many students may I bring to the Museum, inclusive
of chaperones?
Your class should be divided into groups of 15-25
students, plus one chaperone for every 10 students.
Students should be divided into groups before
you come to the Museum and each student should
have a nametag. This saves time for your visit
and allows the gallery teachers to speak to the
students by name. (Homeschool groups must also
provide this information).
What
types of visits are available to me?
- Gallery
Teacher guided visit: One hour in length with
a predetermined theme.
- Self-guided
visit: After you have visited the Museum and
determined what you wish to present, you may
bring your class (es) for your own visit.
- Curricular
visit: Call the Director of Lifelong Learning
(Marsha Lehman, ext.227) to create a visit that
deals with your specific curriculum and/or specific
objects.
- Multiple
visits: Plan multiple visits for your class.
(Contact Marsha Lehman, ext.227)
- High
School Symposium: When studying a specific topic-the
Renaissance, Greece, or Rome, use the Museum
as part of the curricular presentation (who
were Renaissance painters, what objects were
part of the Renaissance, what was the music
of the day, etc).
- To
study and examine landscapes/portraits in the
Museum’s collection use the galleries
to draw, write, or paint (in watercolor, with
dropcloths)
- Investigative
visit – To examine the collection of birds,
bugs, and animals at the Museum, we can have
a part of our collection out for the students
to see, write about, or draw.
What
are the fees for group rates?
(A group is made up of 8 or more people)
Students $3.00 per person without Gallery Teacher/$4.00
per person with Gallery Teacher
Chaperones $5.00 per person
Payment for visit is due at time of visit.
The above fees are waived for public schools located
in the Reading Area School District.
