Gallery
Teachers
Training
By
leading tours for thousands of visitors each year,
Gallery Teachers play an integral role in carrying
out the Museum's educational mission.
Gallery
Teachers enjoy in-depth training that includes
the cultural and stylistic background of art,
history, and science. Training focuses on our
collection, critical writing and talking about
art, and training in interactive teaching techniques
for touring children and teachers. Classes are
held on Thursday mornings from 9:00 until 10:30.
There is a break in the summer.
Next
training class will be starting September 14,
2006.
Gallery
Teachers must become Museum members each year.
After the training program is completed, participants
agree to serve as Gallery Teachers for a least
one year, which includes attending training sessions
on current exhibitions and being available to
tour at least part of one day per week.
Applicants
do not have to have a degree in an art field to
become a Gallery Teacher. We are looking for enthusiastic
people who enjoy learning and would enjoy assisting
students and teachers in discovering more about
our collection. The tours at the Museum involve
student groups from first grade through college.
Gallery Teachers continue their education of the
permanent collection, special exhibitions, and
touring techniques through an on-going training
program. In addition, there are speakers, workshops,
day-trips and other events for Gallery Teachers
to expand their knowledge and friendships.
Gallery
Teachers use a Socratic method of delivering material.
Gallery
Teachers are paid for training and for tours.
We
cannot promise set times or hours as tours and
times vary. Gallery Teachers sign up for as many
tours as they wish as long as all school tours
are covered.
Gallery
Teachers is a paid position
