Development
Internship
The Reading Public Museum seeks an intern to work
for a semester as a member of the Development
staff. The primary emphasis of this opportunity
will be writing. Under the supervision of the
Vice President of Development, the intern will:
• use online research tools to identify
foundations as prospective funders of Museum operations
and programming
•
prepare grant proposals to foundations and government
agencies;
•
prepare reports describing the ongoing impact
of past donations to some of the Museum’s
most generous donors;
•
draft descriptive materials on each of the Museum’s
galleries for inclusion in future proposals to
individuals and foundations; and
•
collaborate in the drafting and design of marketing
materials to launch a new program in planned giving.
In
addition to working on these projects, the intern
will be involved in the day-to-day operations
of a small-shop development program that includes
annual giving, major gifts, planned giving, and
corporate and foundation relations. He or she
will also gain first-hand experience with two
complementary programs – marketing/PR and
special events/volunteer coordination.
For
this opportunity, we seek a college junior or
senior who has completed significant coursework
related to writing. Preference will be given to
candidates interested in a career in some aspect
of non-profit management.
The
intern will work approximately 15 hours per week
for 10 weeks. In recognition of the successful
completion of this internship, the Reading Public
Museum will provide the development intern with
an honorarium of $750.
