"Jazz Under the Stars"
Friday, April 1, 4-6 p.m. at The Planetarium
Join us for a late afternoon party "under the stars" at The Planetarium at the Reading Public Museum! It's a great prelude to one of the many concerts held later that evening as part of the 21st Annual Boscov's Berks Jazz Fest. Start your weekend in an unmatched environment -- right across the street from the Scottish Rite Cathedral, and nearby major hotels and Downtown Reading. If you're going to the 7:00 p.m. Gerald Albright & Friends concert (with Rick Braun, Brian Culbertson, Larry Braggs, Selina Albright and the Berks Jazz Fest Horns) the same night, why not begin your evening here -- and walk across the street to the concert (see offer below)!
Listen to the music of the Dave Posmontier Trio while enjoying wine and light refreshments, and the visually stunning images on the dome above. Our Planetarium theatre and large foyer will be set up party-style, with tables (seated and standing), auditorium-style chairs, and plenty of room to mingle. Plus, while you're in the foyer, you'll be able to see the musicians on our digital screens (and projected on our moon)!
Dave Posmontier has been playing piano since the age of seven and professionally for the past 40 years. A pianist, organist, composer, arranger and teacher, he has performed and recorded with many jazz artists including Christian McBride, James Moody, Chris Potter, Duane Eubanks, Mickie Roker, Bobbie Durham, John Blake, John Swana, Mike Richmond, Bootsie Barnes, Tony Williams (sax), Bob Howell, Larry McKenna, Steve Giordano, Grover Washington Jr., David “Fathead” Newman, and Johnny Hartman. Joining Dave will be noted musicians bassist Chico Huff and drummer Erik Johnson, no strangers to the Boscov's Berks Jazz Fest.
Special Guest "Star" 2010 Grammy Award Nominee Philippe Saisse
Internationally famous keyboardist, producer and arranger Philippe Saise will be dropping by to play a few songs with the Dave Posmontier Trio. And with all the musicians in town this week, who knows who else will stop by?
Philippe was born in Marseille and raised in Paris. After studying at the Conservatoire de Paris he won a scholarship to the Berklee College of Music, and became the protege of Gary Burton and debuted on Al Di Meola's "Splendido Hotel." He also worked with Felicia Collins and wrote for David Sanborn. He has also worked in the alternative rock, jazz fusion and rock world for David Bowie, Chaka Khan, Al Jarreau, Paul King, The Rolling Stones and others.
Saisse's 2009 solo album, "At World's Edge," was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Jazz Album . It reunited Saisse with two old friends: bassist Pino Palladino, and drummer Simon Phillips. The three joined together as an instrumental rock/jazz fusion trio ensemble, PSP or Phillips Saisse Palladino.
