Sunday, February 26, 2012 - Klingon Klez

Klingon KlezIn honor of our Theresienstadt's Children and Their Art exhibition, this unique group will present a special concert of traditional Jewish music plus a few surprising and fascinating arrangements of their own!

Klezmer music, which originated in the villages and ghettos of Eastern Europe, has a distinctive sound and is easily recognizable. The songs performed today include a repertoire of emotions including joy, despair, revolt, and love, interjected with some Jewish humor.

Jack Kessler, music director, vocals, and composer-arranger, has been called a one-man force of nature in Jewish music. He sang Jewish liturgical music as a cantor for twenty years before he decided that he prefers singing with a band.

A quartet of musicians from Klingon Klez will play good old-fashioned, heartwarming tunes that combine jazz, funk and Dixieland. These musicians from Philadelphia are all talented in their own right, and come together in Klingon Klez for an unforgettable performance.
