American artist Bill Barrett is primarily known for his large outdoor public sculptures of bronze, aluminum, and welded steel, but is also a prolific painter. The Museum is already home to two of Barrett’s large sculptures: Efflorescence II (1998), donated by Miss Shirley Boscov in 2006, and Lexeme Series IX, a promised gift from the artist himself. The exhibit will feature a selection of recent large-scale paintings and bronze sculptures by the renowned artist.

Deeply inspired by Surrealism and Cubism, Barrett paints and sculpts dream-like floating forms that exude a swirling energy. The artist notes that he is “always trying to incorporate beauty of perfection and emotion, using uplifting forms toward harmony and assertiveness and how they relate to each other.”

Barrett is based in both New York City and Santa Fe, New Mexico, where he maintains active studios. The artist earned an MFA at the University of Michigan and taught at Eastern Michigan University, the Cleveland Institute of Art, SUNY New Paltz and Queens College, and Columbia University.  Over the past 40 years, the artist has exhibited regularly in New York and Santa Fe in solo and group exhibitions.
